Energy Day

September 23 @ 8:00 am - 2:00 pm

Hi Folks,

Energy Day 2023 is Saturday the 23rd of this month. Here is some critical information for those of you considering participating this year.

  • Energy Day is no longer coupled with the Kendrick Castillo Memorial Tournament, that event has been moved to Regis in October and will be run by Colorado FIRST for the future as a full-fledged official “off-season” event that shows up in The Blue Alliance.
  • Kendrick’s family continues to support both KCMT and Energy Day, and as such our Energy Day robotics event is titled the Kendrick Castillo Robotics Challenge. The robotics “challenge” will use elements of the 2023 game in an outdoor setting and can best be played with your existing 2023 robots, though some parts can easily be done with other robots as well.
  • The time for the public event is 10 AM – 2 PM. Setup for teams begins at 8 AM, you will have pit areas outdoors similar to last year’s setup (10×10 on the street or the grass).
  • There will once again be three $2000 grant awards available to participating teams, as judged by a team of judges provided by Chevron. I am linking the application here and here, you should also have received an application through Colorado FIRST.
  • There will be a “parade” of robots through the street at the event to show our robots to the public. We encourage you to bring as many robots as you like to share in the parade, and for public display and interactions throughout the event.
  • There will be power provided to the pits for battery charging etc.
  • The playing field will be covered by a large tent; this can also serve as protection from the sun for participants. We don’t know what the weather will be, but recommend bringing sunscreen and taking advantage of the water and snacks provided for teams by the event planners.
  • There is an opportunity to share videos about your team with the judges and public, and we will have a large screen (maybe two) ready to hook up computers to for showing videos. You can show highlight reels from 2023, or your Impact Award submission video, or a video you’ve created for this event. These will help judges understand your team and its impact on students and the larger community.
  • there will also be space for alternative projects to FRC to be shown, such as FTC robots or community projects. We’d love to see what else y’all are up to.

If you have any questions you can contact me at this email address, or at 303-803-2980. I’ve been somewhat out of the loop this year due to multiple “life” things (we had a house fire that injured my wife, and I injured my back just before the school year started, among other things) so I apologize for not having more info sooner. Please respond if you get a chance and let me know if you are planning on attending.

Joel
