FIRST® LEGO® League Discover

Welcome to FIRST LEGO League Discover!
FIRST LEGO League Discover is a playful introductory STEM program for teams of children ages 4-6, that ignites their natural curiosity and builds their habits of learning. By the end of the program, children emerge more confident, better equipped to face future challenges, and discover the joy of learning. A new and exciting Challenge is presented every year, and each team of four children begins their exploration of this real-world theme with an exclusive LEGO Education Discover Set. With this set as a starting point, they build a solution to the Challenge with LEGO® DUPLO® elements. Teams share their journey, ideas, models, and STEM skills at a celebration event. Throughout their experience, teams operate under the FIRST® Core Values, celebrating discovery and teamwork, all the while having fun! Discover is not available as an individual team option and is designed for classrooms or programs that serve 8 or more students.
The FIRST Core Values
- Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.
- Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
- Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world.
- Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.
- Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.
- Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!

Frequently Asked Questions
FIRST® LEGO® League Discover is designed specifically for the developmental needs of pre-kindergarten through first grade students. Each Class Pack serves 8 young learners (which equates to two “teams” of 4 learners each); you may purchase several Class Packs to serve your entire class of students.
The goal: Build confidence, habits of learning, and teamwork skills with activities designed to harness young minds’ natural curiosity.
FIRST LEGO League Discover Class Packs include the curriculum resources educators and facilitators need to lead early learners through 10 sessions that explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through play using the LEGO® Education STEAM Park.
Discover More Family Engagement Sets help bring the learning home, so caregivers can experience learning through play with their children. The Discover More game and LEGO® Six Bricks activities help to bridge and reinforce the learning that takes place at home and at school.

Each reusable STEAM Park Set contains 295 LEGO DUPLO bricks, including gears, tracks, pulleys, boats, and figures.
LEGO Education recommends no more than eight (8) students per STEAM Park Set to provide all students an opportunity to engage with the various elements.

From The LEGO Foundation:
Applications for the next round of FIRST LEGO League Class Pack grants supported by the LEGO Foundation are now open! We are seeking schools, school districts, and youth serving organizations who can commit to reaching at least 80 underrepresented or underserved students in each of the next three years through FIRST LEGO League Class Packs. Preference will go to United States and Canada sites who can implement all three FIRST LEGO League divisions (Discover – pre-K through 1st grade, Explore – 2nd through 4th grade, Challenge, 4th through 8th grade) and sites who can grow participation each year. Grants include Class Pack registrations for each year, required LEGO® DUPLO® or LEGO® robotics sets for each division, and FIRST Certified Professional Development for teachers. Sites must agree to submit student demographics, participate in an evaluation study, and create a sustainability plan to ensure program participation continues after the grant period. See the LEGO Foundation Grant Application Summary 2022-2023 for more information and the link to the application form.
Proposals will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all available grants have been awarded. Please contact LEGOFoundationGrant@firstinspires.org with questions.
